Created on fill by Charles Bulfinch and partners in 1808, this compact 50-acre slice of Boston is on the National Register of Historic Places. It sits between the North End and the West End, and has long been focused on serving the TD Garden and North Station.
Following the completion of the Big Dig, the area has been undergoing rapid development, with several new residential buildings and the Converse headquarters complete. Two major projects at opposite ends of Canal St., Bulfinch Crossing and the Hub at Causeway, are set to transform the neighborhood by 2020.
This short tour explores recent changes and previews what's to come. For now, it is best for those with patience for walking around active construction sites.
