HISTORICAL ARCHITECTS

Since Charles Bulfinch became the first native-born American professional architect following the American Revolution, Boston has been the home to generations of famous designers. Those profiled below were instrumental in various chapters of the city's development and in many cases influential on a national and international scale. They are organized chronologically, and reflect three historic building booms in the city: c.1780-1830, 1880-1920, and 1960-1980.
