Kendall Square is a major hub for biotech research and development, a significant center for information technology, and arguably the global reference model for innovation in general. While MIT has provided a continuous engine for development and investment to keep the area alive, the evolution from industrial center to technology hub took many decades. As MIT representatives respond when asked how to recreate their seemingly magical formula for technology commercialization: “Build the world’s greatest science and engineering university, and wait 100 years.”
That said, the current phase of development is remarkable. This flat ~1-1/4 mile walk takes in a selection of recent and ongoing projects and includes and number of sites with projects on the boards.
